All in the Family: Self, Spouse and Brood
| All in the Family celebrates photographers who take a close and often whimsical look at themselves and their immediate families. From a rare 1887 Eadweard Muybridge sequence of himself walking naked to a Harry Callahan of "Eleanor" superimposed over a landscape, from a Sally Mann of her daughter lying on the grass to Lee Friedlander self-portrait of his head's shadow on a tree, this exhibition offers a wonderful variety of self-referential glances. From the earliest days of photography c.1939, photographers have aimed the camera at themselves and those dearest to them. This tradition continues through today. |
