A Baker's Dozen
Important Photographs
from the Collection of Alexandra R. Marshall
|
Laurence Miller Gallery is pleased to
present thirteen vintage photographs that celebrate the human form
from the influential collector Alexandra R. Marshall.
This exhibition is the Gallery’s second in an ongoing series
that celebrates the personal vision, connoisseurship and collecting
acumen of private individuals who helped shape the photography field
over the past thirty years. Alexandra R. Marshall began collecting photographs in 1977. She had a terrific eye informed by great intelligence, a passion for beauty, a delightful sense of humor, and her experience as a fashion model. Her collecting focused on several interconnected themes, including torsos, corsets, mannequins, women and romance. A Baker's Dozen will include works by Julia Margaret Cameron, Man Ray, Bill Brandt, Robert Frank, Andre Kertesz and Tina Modotti, among others. Without the passion
and commitment of collectors such as Alexandra R. Marshall, the field
of photographic collecting and appreciation would never have
progressed so rapidly. |
