Karl Blossfeldt   born: Schielo, Harz Mountains, 1865

A self taught photographer, Karl Blossfeldt is best known for his photographic series Urformen Der Kunst, 1928. His intention was to create teaching aides for students illustrating natural forms found in plants, and their relationship to the natural designs used in architecture and other art disciplines. As a result, Blossfeldt's images merge the scientific and artistic elements of the photographic medium. The gallery presents a small selection of pages from the Urformen Der Kunst publication - available in groups of three or as individual prints.
