Virginia Beahan and Laura McPhee met at Princeton, in Emmet Gowin's intro to photography class, in 1977. Ten years later, each equipped with her own Deardorf view camera, they headed out together, but as individual artsists, to photograph in the landscape. Before too long they found themselves collaborating on what subject to shoot, where to stand, how to interpret the light, and so on. It is remarkable that for over 15 years they have worked with an apparently seemless and interchangeable method. And by now they have traveled the globe.

The Country Between Us deals exclusively with the United States, and it is a tribute to their collaborative and insightful vision that they are able to make exotic pictures from ordinary places and things. This will be their second exhibition at the Laurence Miller Gallery.
