We embark on our fourth year of PHOTOGRAPH OF THE WEEK with this delightful play on photographic history by Anastasia Samoylova. From her series Breakfasts With, the artist has reimagined a still life from 1937 by Paul Outerbridge.
Samoylova offers these insights: "Sometimes photographing an image is a way to really get to know it. To study it through a lens, or within another image, is to really engage with it. So Breakfasts With is not so much appropriation as an act of homage and a recognition of the deep effects that photographs can have on us."
From September 23–November 13, 2021 The Print Center in Philadelphia will present: Anastasia Samoylova: FloodZone. The exhibition will be devoted to photographs by the Moscow-born, Miami-based artist, responding to rising sea levels caused by global climate change.
