This work combines architectural details from the 28 capital cities that made up the European Union at the time when this work was made (prior to the United Kingdom's withdrawal from the EU in January 2020). Recurrent architectural features were highlighted in each capital city—smoke stacks in Paris, skylights in Berlin, satellite dishes in Athens—and then combined in this composite image. The result is a kind of sprawling panoramic visualization of the multitudinous European Union. Closer examination reveals a playful assemblage of architectural details, with features like water towers, chimneys, and skylights shorn from their original context and mixed together like a puzzle in need of assembling.
