Luca Campigotto's impactful pictures seek to express the grand scale of human ambition. A globe-trotting photographer, he brings with him wherever he goes the dramatic sensibility of Italian art.

This kinetic picture shows the Nanpu Bridge, the largest spiral bridge in the world. Like many iconic bridges, it grew out of a desire to link two geographical areas that were historically divided by water. Before the creation of the bridge, the only way to cross from Puxi (the historic center of Shanghai) to Pudong (modern Shanghai's most populous district) was by ferry or boat. The bridge traverses the Huangpu River, which is known as the Mother River of Shanghai.

Campigotto's long exposure captures the energy of the cars zipping around the bridge's spiral ramp, as if they are revved up high-energy protons in a Super Collider.
