Jacqueline Asplundh created this striking image in Los Luceros, a state Historic Site in New Mexico. The landscape surrounding Los Luceros is uniformly arid but the area has been populated for centuries thanks to its proximity to the banks of the Rio Grande River. Asplundh captures the sustaining essence of water in this elegant image, where a young man and a cascade of water seem almost inseparable.
We're pleased to feature this photograph, which was a winner of the 2023 Photo Review International Photography Competition, juried by Deborah Willis, Professor and Chair of the Department of Photography & Imaging at Tisch School of the Arts at New York University.
