Nothing announces the swelter of summer quite like the sound of an ice cream truck's jingle as it rolls down the street. Simone Rosenbauer made this picture in 2016 when she was enjoying a residency in the Venice Beach section of Los Angeles, a locale which proved to be the perfect location for the series she calls Like Ice in the Sunshine. Anyone who has ever felt that the summer months are both a little too warm, and a little too fleeting, will recognize the playfully poignant nostalgia of these works. Like the manufacturers of the popsicles that stock ice cream trucks around the country, Rosenbauer knows that our eyes always crave a colorful treat.
