I took this photograph of my parents resting peacefully one summer afternoon in their house in Huntington, New York, while I was home from college on summer break. What struck me was the contrast between my mother relaxing, my father sleeping, and the tension of the Watergate hearings on TV. Testifying was James McCord, the former American CIA officer who was involved as an electronics expert in the Watergate burglaries and was convicted on eight counts of conspiracy, burglary and wiretapping in the criminal trial. It was printed in reverse to allow the mood to dominate over the detail.
