This joyous color-infused abstraction was one of the highlights of our booth this past weekend at THE PHOTOGRAPHY SHOW presented by AIPAD. Denis Darzacq is best known for his photographs of bodies aloft and in motion, and the “joie de vivre'' found in his figurative work carries over when he works abstractly. The artist is based in Paris and his work is enlivened by a sense of color and motion that comes straight out of French painting.
Darzacq creates works like these by cutting out colorful sections of his own photographs and collaging those elements together, before photographing the resulting assemblage, fixing it as an image. The resulting works are a celebration of the photographic medium and its unique ability to capture life as a creative process.
