Description

May 13, 2024
One hardly knows where to begin when cataloging all of the delightful visual wit contained in this composition. The framed portrait that nearly obscures the young girl carrying it, isn't just a picture within a picture, it could be called an "image on the run", to borrow a phrase from the original French language title of Henri Cartier-Bresson’s 1952 book Images à la Sauvette. As such it's a playful stand-in for all of the still pictures the photographer pursued through our moving world.

For us picture dealers, it's easy to identify with this scene of art in transit, ready to be installed, and the scenario will no doubt also resonate with collectors, who recall the particular pleasure of bringing a newly acquired work into their home.
