Prior to undertaking her groundbreaking series Untitled Film Stills, Cindy Sherman in 1975 made a series of self-portraits that explored her growing fascination with self-transformation. She would create different personas employing makeup, hats and hair pins, "...as a means for exploring my experiences as a woman."
The print presented here was from that time, and was given by Sherman to her friend John Maggiotto, who as Director of HALLWALLS in Buffalo, NY, curated her first one-person show, in March of 1979.
