In this enchanting and poetic image, Toshio Shibata turns a cascade of falling water into a vast and silky mist that divides the landscape. Water has long been the key elemental feature in his work, and he has rendered its qualities in innumerable ways by adjusting his exposure times. Here he seems to have transformed it entirely, to where its scale and fabric-like appearance are suggestive of Christo and Jeanne-Claude's large scale works wrapping landmarks and landscapes. Ultimately, Shibata has taken a recognizable scene of a spillway tucked into a forested area, and rendered it beautifully, in a way that isn't quite like anything we've ever seen.
