This mesmerizing image—which is both non-objective, and rich with associations—could suggest a celestial map, charting the movements of heavenly bodies, or a smaller universe seen through a microscope.
Patricia Bender’s work combines her drawing practice with early photographic methods and materials. This works was made without a camera, using the cliché-verre process. Bender first created a drawing which she then used as a paper negative, printing the image onto photo paper through a glass sheet. While her art is enriched by these working methods, it is never strictly process-oriented, and she brings an approach that is at once poetic and exploratory to each piece.
Bender's printed drawings are both precise and mysterious, with an improvisational quality that invites us to accompany her on a journey of visual discovery. Follow the link below, to explore the worlds within Patricia Bender's work.
