Description

October 20, 2025
Jacques Henri Lartigue is often associated with high velocity images, which captured the forward momentum of early automobiles and planes, but here we find him enjoying a moment of sunny repose on the French Riviera. The iconic Palm Beach Complex in Cannes was newly built and Lartigue makes the palatial grounds look even more sprawling by framing the photograph in a way that suggests that the boy in the foreground—his son Dani—has the luxury resort largely to himself, as his personal playground. This photograph captures the joie de vivre that has made Lartigue’s work a beloved diary of the interwar years in France.
