This photograph by Yoko Ikeda reads like a delightful visual puzzle. Its bright, painterly use of color immediately draws the eye, pulling the viewer into a pleasantly disorienting play of form and depth. Ikeda's images often have a collage-like sensibility, and here she seems to cut holes into space itself, inviting us to peer inside. Even once the viewer recognizes the image as a view through a piece of playground equipment in Japan, the composition’s ability to cheerfully discombobulate the eye remains undiminished.
