Description

June 22, 2026
A pristine quietude infuses this scene from a Paris cafe. A sense of heightened attention is created by focusing on the soft light on the folds of a tablecloth that, for most, wouldn't merit a second glance. Bernard Plossu was born in Vietnam and grew up in France, where as a teenager the films of the French New Wave served as his early visual education at the Paris cinémathèque. Plossu's sensual, and deeply romantic pictures are shaped less by their subjects than by his evocative approach to looking closely with his camera.
