Description

September 28, 2026
This newly created work is a stunning example of how Raїssa Venables manipulates space in her composite photographs. Albrechtsburg, a Late Gothic castle in the German state of Saxony, is renowned as an architectural marvel. Depicted here is the interior of its Great Staircase Tower, where a celebrated spiral staircase features elegant curved steps turning around a filigree spindle. Cellular vaulting (also known as diamond vaults) is a style of late-Gothic ceiling construction characterized by faceted surfaces. By amplifying the origami-like quality of the vaulted ceiling, Venables creates a soaring, light-filled space that seems to fold in, around, and on itself.
