Over the past fifty years that I have been involved with photography I have never experienced images like John's, that lyrically intertwine history with the present. Within recent photographs of Central Park, Wall Street and Washington Square, seen above, John integrates the African-American communities such as Seneca Village that two centuries ago called these places home. Rather than make loud pronouncements of injustice and racism, he creates delicate pictures that invite the viewer to discover truths that have conveniently been hidden or ignored.
