Laurence Miller Gallery will open its fall season with new work by award winning 
“photographer” Maggie Taylor. The exhibition of approximately eighteen large and
eight small inkjet prints celebrates and coincides with the release of her major book, Landscape of Dreams, published by Peachpit Press.  Book orders are welcome

Maggie Taylor’s prints describe an intimate yet familiar universe and have the texture and delicacy of a watercolor. Working with images collected from antique stores, e-Bay auctions, personal photographs and flea markets she is able to create complex portraits, landscapes and dreamscapes from common and ordinary objects.  Her pictures are endowed with a blend of wit, realism, and irony that make us smile and cringe at the same time.

Ms. Taylor’s tools are a computer and a flatbed scanner. The jurors who awarded her first prize in the Santa Fe Project Competition, a photography contest, effectively ignored the now tiresome debate and distinction between photography and new digital technology, interpreting the medium in its broadest terms. Her compelling images opened their eyes to a new way of using light to make art, thereby acknowledging her as being in the vanguard of those artists who are expanding the photographic tradition while remaining a part of it.

Maggie was born in Cleveland, Ohio , in 1961, and received an MFA in photography from the University of Florida in 1987. She is the recipient of many technology-associated awards, most recently first prize in the Santa Fe Project Competition, and a Florida Artist Fellowship in 1996. Her work is in the collections of The Art Museum, Princeton; Fogg Art Museum, Harvard; Musee de la Photographie, Belgium; Museet For Fotokunst, Denmark, and Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.
