Press Release

MODERN SPIRIT features a collection of 45 mostly vintage photographs from the 1920's to the early 1970’s, each originally selected for its quality, significant position within mainstream 20th century photographic history, state of preservation and sheer image-beauty.

The exhibition embraces many of the photographers who shaped photography between the wars, both in Europe and the United States, as well as more contemporary practitioners that expanded on those ideas.  Modern masters such as Edward Weston, Irving Penn, Berenice Abbott, Bill Brandt, Alfred Eisenstaedt, Werner Mantz and Roman Vishniac accompany major post war figures such as Harry Callahan, Robert Frank, Ralph Eugene Meatyard and Danny Lyon. Most of the prints have not been on the market for many years.
