SMALL MUSEUM
Simone Rosenbauer's Small Museum series documents 41 small indepently run museums and their caretakers, throughout rural Australia. The four year project explores unique collections and archives from all across Australia, highlighting the objects and histories that local communities have sought to preserve. The resulting collection of images is a kind of portrait of Australia's cultural memory. By documenting these museums and the objects they hold, as well as the museum caretakers, Rosenbauer examines the way that ideas and memories are preserved by curated collections—a tradition that she herself enters into with this series of photographs, which are a collection and a form of conservation in their own right.
