Press Release

In his 1974 series WHIMSY, Ray K. Metzker juxtaposed four small out-of-focus views of leaves into abstract diamond-shaped collages which read like Rorschach tests, completely open to each viewer’s interpretation.  With only a handful ever exhibited, this is the first time that 36 of these unique works have been presented together.

Spending time with these playful forms is like watching clouds: we can't help but see figures emerge from their patterns but the images are ultimately elusive.
